Terms

Terms and conditions

The agreement between you and The Makers, LLC when we help you, and the terms of the text messages we send. Last updated 6 October 2026.

Who we are

The Makers, LLC is a technology services company in St. Louis County, Missouri. We help older people and their families with phones, tablets, computers, televisions, smart speakers, home security and the equipment that keeps a family in touch. You can reach us on (314) 207-3800 or through the form at themakers.com/contact.

What we do, and what we are not

We are not a medical provider, a nursing service, or a home-care agency, and we give no medical advice. Nothing we build or set up is a medical device or an alarm system. Where we help with health equipment — a glucose sensor, say — we are helping you use a product somebody else makes, under their terms, and the alarms on that product remain the thing you rely on in an emergency. In an emergency, call 911.

We are not affiliated with or endorsed by Abbott. FreeStyle Libre is Abbott's trademark.

Booking, and paying

We agree what we will do and what it costs before we start. If a job turns out to be larger than it looked, we stop and tell you rather than carrying on and billing for it. If we cannot fix something, we say so and you do not pay for the attempt.

Please give us as much notice as you can if you need to change a visit. We will do the same for you.

Working on your equipment

We work on your devices with your permission and in your presence unless you ask otherwise. We do not copy anything off your devices, and we do not keep your passwords. Equipment is old and sometimes fails on its own; we are careful, but we cannot be responsible for a device failing in the ordinary course of being repaired, and we will always tell you beforehand when we think something is fragile.

We will never telephone you out of the blue, and we will never ask you for a password, a bank detail or a gift card. Anybody who does is not us.

The family portal

Some families use a private portal we run. Accounts are by invitation, each person signs in under their own name, and every view of health information is recorded. Information about a person is held because that person, or somebody with authority to act for them, asked us to hold it, and is shown only to the people they have named in writing. That permission can be withdrawn at any time and access stops the same day. How all of this works is set out on our privacy page.

Text messages

If you tick the box when you set up your portal account and give us a mobile number, you will receive text messages from The Makers Care Reminders. These are:

  • a reminder to record the insulin given that morning, which you answer with two numbers;
  • a reminder that a medicine is due, at times the family sets;
  • a notice that the person you look after has had a call or a text;
  • a notice that her equipment has stopped reporting, and one when it starts again.

Ticking the box is optional and it is never ticked for you. The portal works perfectly well without it, and we do not take a mobile number unless you have ticked it. Message frequency varies; a typical household gets two to five messages a day. Message and data rates may apply.

Reply STOP to any message to stop them. You will get one more message confirming it, and then nothing. Reply HELP for help, or ring us on (314) 207-3800. You can also turn them off in the portal, or ask us to.

We send no marketing by text, ever. No mobile information is shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes at any time. Your number goes to Twilio, who deliver the message for us, and nowhere else. The exact wording you agree to, and samples of every message we send, are on our text message disclosure page.

What we are responsible for

We will do our work carefully and to a reasonable standard. We are not responsible for losses beyond what we were paid for the work in question, or for things outside our control: a manufacturer changing their software, an internet provider going down, a product being discontinued. Nothing here limits any liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

Children

This service is for adults. We do not knowingly collect information about anyone under 13.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of the State of Missouri.

Changes

If we change these terms we will change the date at the top of this page. If a change affects something you have already agreed to — the text messages in particular — we will tell you before it takes effect.
